What is a Cubic Zirconia?
I’ve been asked on many occasions what Cubic Zirconia (CZ). For the uninitiated, it is a man-made, synthetic stone with a striking similarity to diamond, to the untrained eye. Cubic Zirconia is a crystalline form of a compound called Zirconium Dioxide, crystallographically isometric, basically meaning, visually a very effective competitor to the diamond. The similarity to diamond is a testament to how well synthetic stones are made in the modern day, and for many, it can be extremely difficult to tell the difference between an imitation stone and a real diamond. A gemmologist is needed in most situations to make the distinction.
